there was a mirror in the reanimation clinic, 2009
HD video, 4.26 min, dimensions variable
“there was a mirror in the reanimation clinic” is a single channel video work where my family and I are trying to pose in front of the camera following the detailed directions of an off-camera voice: details from somewhere else and some other time. We were reenacting an old photograph that I got from the family archive, a photograph, which was damaged from the effect of time. The reenactment shifted from black and white photography to a colored HD video. I tried to have all members, experience that fragment of time as a longer duration.
It was hard to keep the pose – little by little it became a struggle, a moment of encountering the reality suggested by the photograph, a moment of reflection, a questioning of the family structure.
